Raising your Vital Life Force - The Science and the Practice
Yoga and dance are my passions, dance my first love. It has inspired, uplifted and transformed me time and again when I have dangled on a precipice, about to sink, hurtling down a black hole. It has lifted me out, shaken me up and seized me by the throat at full throttle. Through dance I have found power, clarity, vision and tranquility. Originally trained in classical dance as a child, I have been using dance as a healing tool for more than 25 years.
Born in England but of pure Chinese descent, I grew up with real questions about identity. While dancing wild in nature; on mountain tops, in jungles, by the edge of the sea in freeflow shamanic and ecstatic dance, I have discovered insight, joy and freedom. An inner place called home.
People I have worked with include Anna Halprin of Life Art Therapy, Susannah and Ya'Acov Darling Khan of Movement Medicine, Dawn Morgan of 5 Rhythms, Partricia Martello of Biodanza, Linda Hartley of Body Mind Centering, Mary Abrams of Continuum, Miranda Tuffnell, Penny Collinson, and Maria Oberem of Somatic Dance. I have a Diploma in Dance Movement Therapy and an MA in Dance and Somatics.
I studied Hung Gar Kung Fu for 3 years before yoga found me in 1995 at the Sivananda Ashram, Kerala. In my adult years yoga has been my loyal friend and constant calm refuge. I studied Iyengar and Ashtanga with B S Rudra and Ken Harakuma and yoga therapy with Dr Nagarathna at Vyasa Yoga University, Bangalore, where I got my Teacher Training in 2003. I have studied with Shiva Rea and Glenn Ceresoli and am influenced by Erich Schiffmann, Angela Farmer, Donna Farhi and Uma Dinsmore-Tuli.
My bodywork practices began with Reiki III attunement in 2002 from Donna Macmillan of Hawayo Takato-Usui lineage. In 2006 I studied Swedish Massage and Reflexology. Since then I have studied Acupressure, Ayurvedic and Ancient Thai Massage.
I have been teaching Yoga and Dance since 2007 in England. Since 2014 I have also been teaching in Ibiza, an island whose rugged, elemental spirit and beauty have continually pulled me back since 2000 when I first visited. It is one of my spiritual homes and together with the ancient woodlands and forests of the British Isles, supports, nourishes and inspires me on both my inward and outward journeys.
My biggest teachers have been the challenges, twists and turns on the rollercoaster of Life. My biggest tools to navigate are my breath and gifts of this planet. I am forever a Seeker and a student.
