Raising your Vital Life Force - The Science and the Practice
“Somatics”is the study of self from our personal lived experience, and encompasses our body, psyche, and spirit. The term was coined by Thomas Hanna in 1969 and derived from the Greek “somatikos“, soma: “living, aware, bodily person.“
Hanna recovered the older Christian mystical use of the term, from the New Testament in which Paul talks of the luminous body transformed by faith and Hanna was referring to a ‘wise, imaginative, and creative body’.
Somatic movement is sensed and shaped from within, rather than from an external source. It begins with the body; from the solidity of our skeletal structure, through the fluids that transport our emotions, to our breath that moves our soul. It taps into our bodies' intuitive wisdom and its own healing intelligence.
Somatics can bring us back to the present, which does not have space for past or future; to be grounded, alive, in tune and in our flow.
